Synopsis

SCHMOTTS is a comedy series that takes place in the fictional universe of Toluca Lakes, California. Our tale begins when Stephanie is forced to move out of her dorm room and has to move in with her estranged mother and her obnoxious new stepfather.

GARY SCHMOTTS

Hello, I’m Gary. Gary Schmotts! You may have seen me around town, I drive the 1956 Corvette. Some people have called me the "Corvette King of Toluca Lakes." I certainly call me that ;) ...You might also have seen my hot wife Cheryl and my brand new daughter Stephanie. She says she’s my “stepdaughter,” but I was listening to an AM radio show and they said that if you have a stepdaughter for four years, she’s legally your common law daughter. That’s how the law works, pal. Take it up with the founding fathers!

Anywho, I do my best to provide for my family. It’s hard to do that without a job, but my wife has a great job, and I support her having that job, so who’s really doing the work? You tell me.

CHERYL SCHMOTTS

Oh gee, this is going to be tough. My name is Cheryl Schmotts, mother of Stephanie and wife of Gary. I work at the Toluca Lakes district attorney’s office and I do some bodybuilding in my free time. I hope that doesn’t sound like I’m bragging! I would just hate that.

My interests? I love my family and I try to treat everyone with care. Lord knows we need it! I also like a good Capote novel before bed.

I’m terribly excited to have Stephanie around again. I’m hoping we can put the past behind us and get back to the way we were when she was a little girl. We went through some hard times back then but we got through them, and I know we’ll get through these times too. Oh dear, look at me just gabbing away. I’m so sorry for taking up your time and thank you for indulging me by listening to all this!

STEPHANIE NURDLIN

Hi, I’m Stephanie. I’m a grad student getting my Criminology degree. I had a roommate, but things are a lot harder lately. Because he died. So it looks like I’ll have to move in with my mom...and my stepdad 🤮. He’s a loser and let’s just say I don’t love the way their house smells now.

Ok, positive stuff: I love crime podcasts! And jazz music! Mom used to play jazz radio for me when I was little and I’ve been hooked ever since. What can I say, a girl needs her jazz! I’ve been trying to make some new jazz friends, but the scene in Toluca Lakes is pretty small.

Once I’m all moved in, I really hope things go well with me and my mom. We haven’t spoken much since she and Gary... well...let’s just say it’s been a while. I guess I’ll have to make the best of it for now...
